Construction work is now underway in California for the Silicon Valley Express Lanes Program. The project is being managed by the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).

The work is for the SR 85 and US 101 Express Lanes projects in Phases 3 and 4. Phase 3 will implement the first Express Lanes on US 101 in Mountain View and Palo Alto. Phase 4 will implement the first Express Lanes on SR 85 in south San Jose.

The Phase 4 project on SR 85 and US 101 in south San Jose will convert existing single carpool lanes to Express Lanes. This will be for SR 85 from the US 101/SR 85 Interchange in San Jose to SR 87, including the existing US 101/SR 85 Direct HOV to HOV Connector Ramps and the approaches.

Work is underway now for paid express lanes on parts of Highway 85 and Highway 101, replacing single carpool lanes, as part of Phase 4 of the Express Lanes Project. The VTA also will start a noise-reduction project on Highway 85 with new pavement in Mountain View, Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale and San Jose. Phase 5 will extend the express lanes on US 101 from the southern limits of Phase 3 to I-880 in San Jose.

The work is intended to cut congestion and journey times for drivers.
